A Foodie Break in Keswick

Keswick is home to some mouth-watering local produce and renowned Cumbrian specialities. You will find them all, plus a range of international cuisines, in our restaurants, pubs, shops and cafes. Don't miss a visit to our local breweries and distillery for a tour and tasting. Keswick has been a fairtrade town since 2005 and you will find many fairtrade products on offer here.

Day One

Morning - Spend your morning getting your bearings in Keswick browsing some of our lovely shops. Ye Olde Friars sells a huge range of chocolates, shortbread, jams, honeys and mustards whilst The Cheese Deli in Packhorse Court has a large selection of Cumbrian artisan cheese as well as chutneys, jams, crackers, olives, beers, wine, gin - all from local suppliers. Call into Fultons Lakes Jewellery Works and treat yourself to a luxury Belgian waffle and cappuccino whilst watching jewellery-making in their workshop. Enjoy lunch in one of our many cafes and restaurants - enjoy savoury and sweet crepes at The Wild Strawberry Creperie or if you are looking for a vegetarian or vegan option head to Kat's Kitchen.
Afternoon - Head to Keswick Brewery and discover how they use sheep's wool to make great beers. The craft brewery is only a two-minute walk from the Market Square. Enjoy their brewery tour which includes sampling a selection of their beers. Or take part in a course at Keswick Cookery School. A range of courses are on offer including masterclasses in fish, wild and seasonal, breadmaking and vegan to name but a few.
Evening - Try something different at The Sizzling Stone where you can cook the best locally reared meats at your table on the 450 degree lave stone. Or enjoy a wide selection of locally sourced produce, handpicked for amazing flavours and only the very best mouth-watering meat at Brossen Steakhouse.

Day Two

Morning -  Venture a little further afield today to the north shores of Bassenthwaite Lake to The Lakes Distillery. Enjoy an interactive tour of the state-of-the-art distillery and follow the journey of how the distillery’s spirits are made ending with a tasting of their award-winning spirits. Round off your morning with lunch at The Bistro at the Distillery with a menu focused on local produce and honest hearty flavours.
Afternoon - Just 20 minutes drive from Keswick Cockermouth is home to Jennings Brewery with a long history dating back to 1828 moving to its current location in 1874. Take a guided tour of the brewery and find out how real ales are brewed there and sample some of Jennings superb Lakeland ales in the Old Cooperage. Once back in Keswick don't miss a trip to Booths supermarket to take home a taste of Cumbria.  They develop strong relationships with the best local suppliers, which means you can buy food which is made in Cumbria using time-honoured traditions. Or drop into Laura in the Lakes for some of her famous huge scones to eat in or take home with you.
Evening - This evening head to the Borrowdale Valley where Mizu Pan-Asian Cuisine is located at the four-star Lodore Falls Hotel  Offering a selection of tempting Japanese, Korean, Malaysian and Thai specialities, from the freshest ingredients, expertly prepared by highly skilled chefs.
