A new local initiative between Keswick Launch Company and Keswick Rugby Club commencing on Wednesday 14th July 2021, will reduce vehicle overload on the west side of Derwent Water, as well as helping to reduce vehicle emissions in the Lake District National Park and World Heritage Site.The west side of Derwent Water is famous for being home to Squirrel Nutkin, Mrs Tiggywinkle and Friends and in recent times Cat Bells has become one of the Lake District’s favourite walks.

Gavin Capstick has been announced as the next Chief Executive of the Lake District National Park Authority, taking over from Richard Leafe in October.Gavin joined the Authority in 2018 as Head of Programmes and Resources and was appointed Director of Visitor Services and Resources in 2022.He comes from a strong public service background which has seen him work for Cumbria County Council, Capita and Carlisle City Council in a range of policy, community service, and contract management roles.Gavin said: “I am incredibly proud to become the Lake District National Park’s new Chief Executive.
