Trade A Cucumber For An Ice-Cold G&T At 4 Popular Lake District Bars!

On Friday 16th June, to celebrate World Cucumber Day, Lake District Hotels group are offering guests the opportunity to enjoy a refreshing Hendricks Gin and Fever-Tree Tonic in exchange for a cucumber at any of their three Keswick hotels.

The exclusive ‘happy hour’ will run from 4pm-5pm and the participating bars include the Front Bar and Back Bar at the Inn on the Square, the bar & conservatoryat the Skiddaw Hotel and the newly refurbished Kings Arms bar which are all located within Keswick’s Market Square.

The cucumber plays a very special role in the actual distillation of Hendrick's Gin with the clear drops having distinct flavour notes of cucumber. Therefore, a Hendrick's cocktail should always be completed with a slice of cucumber, which adds an extraordinary rounded flavor to the gin. It is for this reason that no other vegetable can be used as a form of currency to mark the occasion.

What’s more, in anticipation of an influx of cucumbers, the family-owned group are running a competition asking for recipe suggestions on what the hotels can do with all the green vegetables. Suggestions can be emailed to [email protected] and the best idea will be selected as the winner. The winning entrant will be rewarded with a bottle of Hendricks Gin to celebrate.

In order for customers to acquire their free G&T, cucumbers must be fresh and only one drink is permitted per person. Cucumbers can only be exchanged for a gin & tonic between the hours of 4pm-5pm on Friday 16th June. Drink substitutions are not permitted.

Gin & tonics can be exchanged for a cucumber at the following Keswick locations:

  • The Front Bar at Inn on the Square
  • Skiddaw Hotel
  • Kings Arms Hotel
  • The Back Bar
