Mint Chinese Film Festival 2023

Keswick Alhambra is hosting the Mint Chinese Film Festival on 3-5th February, the first Chinese film festival in Cumbria, with a focus on cross-cultural communication and women's representation in films.

With the Chinese New Year festival approaching, it is an occasion to come together and celebrate the Year of the Rabbit with a cinematic feast, hiking trips and more. The full film programme is now available on the official website, where the feature and short films, panels and workshops, events and activities are being showcased.

Films showcasing Chinese heritage include An Old New Play(2021), Virgin Blue (2021), the prominent wuxia film (martial art film) and Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon (2000) by Ang Lee.

To highlight the perspective of Asian women, they bring three premiers of women made films – Double Life (2022) by Japanese-based Chinese first-time filmmaker; B for Busy (2021), a phenomenal Chinese feature by Yihui Shao; and Barbarian Invasion(2021) by an indie filmmaker and a pioneer of Malaysian New Wave Cinema, Tan Chui Mui.
