Lake District Hotels’ Turkey & Syria Earthquake Appeal Raises £10,000 In Less Than 48 Hours

Lake District Hotels Ltd has rallied the support of its guests, employees and suppliers to help raise valuable funds for the British Red Cross who are assisting with the rescues and support of victims in the devastating Turkey and Syria earthquake. In less than 48 hours, the family-owned Group and its generous supporters have successfully raised a combined total of £10,000 for the chosen charity.

As part of the initiative which was only launched on Wednesday 8th February, Lake District Hotels which is owned and run by Kit & Charles Graves and their daughter Dani Hope, promised to match fund every pound donated to the fundraiser up to a combined total of £10k.

“We have been deeply moved to hear about the tragedy which has continued to unfold in Turkey and Syria over the past few days. Seeing the heartbreak of families has truly resonated with all 3 Directors and we wanted to do all we could to offer support and safety to those fighting for their lives” explained Dani Hope, Director of Lake District Hotels.

Reports suggest that over 21,000 people have been killed and many thousands more injured as hundreds of buildings have collapsed.

To offer a helping hand, the Group Directors set up an online fundraising page so they could not only do their bit for those suffering, but also encouraged donations from others which were overwhelming.

With the help of 108 generous supporters, the fundraising target of £5k was reached on the morning of Friday 10th February, with Lake District Hotels matching donations pound for pound to accumulate a total of £10k which was donated directly to the British Red Cross. The number of supporters still continues to rise.

“We would like to take this opportunity to thank our loyal guests, friends, employees and trusted suppliers who have all donated to this heartbreaking cause.” Said Kit Graves, Director of Lake District Hotels. “Through your generosity, we have successfully reached our target in just under 48 hours and all the money will go directly toward the rescue effort to free those who are trapped beneath the rubble.”

The tremendous fundraising appeal comes nearly one entire year since the group successfully raised £10,000 for Ukrainian refugees following the outbreak of war.

Lake District Hotels’ fundraising page for the Turkey & Syrian Earthquake disaster is still active, and the hotel group’s Directors are still encouraging people to donate where you can.
