Keynote Speaker At Calvert’s Summer Ball Closes In On World-First

The keynote speaker at Calvert Lakes’ Summer Ball is closing in on a world-first - and guests on the evening will be amongst the first to hear all about it.

World-class high-altitude mountaineer, ex-SAS Mountain leader and spiritual guide, Krish Thapa, is currently between Camps 2 and 3 guiding double above-knee amputee Hari Budha Magar up the world’s highest peak - Mount Everest.

With Krish’s help, Hari has already made history as the first double above-knee amputee to trek to Everest Base Camp. However, reaching the 8,848.86m (29,029ft) summit is the ultimate test and updates on social media suggest their goal is within reach.

The Lake District Calvert Trust’s Summer Ball takes place on Friday 9 June 2023 at Armathwaite Hall, Bassenthwaite - but ticket sales close in just two weeks on 31 May 2023 and places are now limited.

Said Sean Day, Centre Director at the Lake District Calvert Trust:  “We are all following Krish and Hari’s climb on social media.  Krish and Hari have been training together since 2016 and Krish has led all of Hari’s record-breaking expeditions to date. The rest of the team consists of UK and US veterans along with some of the most experienced Sherpas in the world. To hear Krish’s story first-hand at our Summer Ball will be very special. I’d urge anyone who hasn’t yet bought a ticket or a table to do so quickly.”

The Summer Ball offers an evening of fabulous fun, fine food, and inspiring stories - all against the gorgeous backdrop of one of England's original stately homes.

The black-tie event starts with a sparkling reception at 6.30pm followed by a three-course dinner created by Armathwaite’s 2 AA rosette Chef with table wine. Other highlights during the evening include a charity auction, live music and entertainment.

Tickets for the Summer Ball are priced at £95 per person or £900 for a table of ten. All proceeds go towards supporting the Lake District Calvert Trust. To book please go to:
