Keswick Theatre Club Brings “84 Charing Cross Road” To The Studio At Theatre By The Lake

Keswick Theatre Club is presenting a play adaptation of the best-selling book "84 Charing Cross Road" by Helen Hanff. The heart-warming story follows a transatlantic friendship between a New York writer and a London bookseller over two decades. The play is a bittersweet comedy and will be performed at the Studio in Theatre by the Lake from Wednesday 19 April until Saturday 22 April.

"84 Charing Cross Road" is a touching story that portrays the power of human connection despite the distance between two people. The play is based on the extraordinary true story of the friendship that developed between Helene Hanff, a tenacious New York writer and Frank Doel, a reserved London bookseller. The audience will witness their relationship blossom through their letters, filled with warmth, humour and a mutual love for literature. The play promises to be an emotional journey that captures the heart of the audience.

Vanessa Metcalfe, Director said, “This was not a story I knew but the first time I read the play I felt such a strong emotional connection with it and I immediately asked if I could direct it. What I didn’t realise was just how complex the staging was going to be. It has certainly been a challenge but as well having an amazing bunch of actors, I have had the support of a fantastic backstage team and of course the Theatre by the Lake team have fantastic.”
