Keswick Hotel “Royally” Appointed To Host Iconic Mosaic Portrait Of Queen Elizabeth To Mark Platinum Jubilee

The 4-star Skiddaw Hotel which is situated in Keswick’s Market Square has been selected to display a special mosaic portrait of Her Majesty The Queen throughout 2022 to commemorate her Platinum Jubilee taking place this summer.

The mosaic portrait which is skillfully made up of 2,450 smaller images of Keswick and Derwentwater was hand gifted to Her Royal Majesty by Keswick Tourism Association for her Diamond Jubilee on 17th July 2013 during a royal visit to the Lake District.

Throughout 2012, Keswick Tourism Association encouraged visitors, businesses and residents to submit their favourite photos that reflected parts of the town which they love. Submissions included holiday photos of families enjoying the outdoors, scenic views, Cumbrian wildlife and even four-legged friends.

Truly capturing the essence of not just Keswick as a destination, but the people who make the town what it is, Queen Elizabeth felt the portrait was a marvelous memento for the community and urged the town to keep the mosaic as a token to remind them of the Diamond Jubilee Year.

After spending the past 9 years having pride of place in the Keswick Tourism Association office, the portrait has temporarily relocated to the entrance of the 4-star Skiddaw Hotel so visitors to the town can admire the captivating piece throughout the Platinum Jubilee celebrations.

“Although I do miss seeing the beautiful portrait in the KTA Office, I feel excited that Her Majesty’s portrait has the opportunity to be displayed in the centre of Keswick for visitors and locals to appreciate throughout another monumental Jubilee year” said Vanessa Metcalfe, Tourism Manager at Keswick Tourism Association.

The Skiddaw Hotel has an extensive history having dominated Keswick’s Market Square for over 150 years providing memorable experiences to guests, making the hotel an appropriate host for the iconic portrait throughout 2022.

The detailed portrait can be seen on your right-hand side as you enter the hotel from Market Square, right before you head through the second set of double doors to the reception area.

“It is an honour that the Skiddaw Hotel has been chosen to accommodate the remarkable portrait” General Manager of the Skiddaw Hotel, Neels Ferriera, told us. “Our town-centre hotel has become well-known for our friendly hospitality, so she is definitely in good hands!”

The hotel is open daily offering a selection of food and drink options from authentic Spanish tapas, tasty bar meals using local produce and a ‘Hikers Board’ complete with a selection of savoury bites for 2 people to share. The 4-star Skiddaw Hotel is also home to Brasserie 31, an AA Rosette restaurant known for its imaginative menus.
