Getting to Keswick from other areas of the UK

Using motorways from Manchester it takes approximately 2 hours, whilst the average comfortable journey time from London and the South-East is no more than five hours. From the Midlands to Keswick is 3 hours. Keswick is situated close to the M6 just north of Lancaster and South of Carlisle. The nearest junction serving the North Lakes from either the North or South is J40 of the M6.
Please check your route to Keswick as the A591 at Thirlmere is closed due to flood damage. Businesses at either side are open as normal. Visitors from the South should access Keswick via M6 J40 and not via J36 and the A591.
Keswick is easy to get to from much of the national trail network as Penrith and Carlisle are on the West Coast Main Line which serves London, the West Midlands, Greater Manchester and Glasgow. There are bus connections from Penrith and Carlisle to Keswick. Once here, Keswick is well served by buses which are particularly useful for linear walks and for viewing our fantastic scenery .
