Abstract Wet Felting Class with Victoria Merness

Rheged Centre

elt Making is the oldest craft in the world, and it can be used to make textural artwork, as well as many beautiful and useful objects.Join Victoria for a fun and informative day of wet felt making, using pure Merino wool roving tufts to form felted landscape artwork.
In this workshop, you will make your own abstract wet felted panel that can be formed into objects. Due to the drying process, you will also work with felt panels that have been previously made by Victoria, and you will learn how to fashion your felted panel into a useful object, or how to display your felting as an artwork. There will be the opportunity to apply simple hand embroidery to the object to decorate or to transform it into an object.
This is achievable for complete beginners, and all materials are included. You will be able to take your artwork home to display and admire.
Previous workshops at Rheged have included Wet Felted Landscapes, and this can be done in this workshop if preferred. You can still embroider onto a pre-made felted panel.
Victoria is a qualified teacher in Art & Creative Practice, and you may have seen her on the TV channel Sewing Street, with her own designed embroidery kits from Little House of Victoria.

Note: During this workshop you will be working with pure Merino and other sheep variety wool tops, and pure olive oil soap. If you are allergic to any of these items, then please bring protective gloves. The agitation of the wool for the felting process can be a little physical, but Victoria can step in to help if there are any dexterity issues.

All the materials are as sustainable, recyclable, or reusable as possible, and contain no plastics.

Abstract Wet Felting Class with Victoria Merness

Rheged Centre
22 June 2024

elt Making is the oldest craft in the world, and it can be used to make textural artwork, as well as many beautiful and useful objects.Join Victoria for a fun and informative day of wet felt making, using pure Merino wool roving tufts to form felted landscape artwork.

10.30am – 3pm
