Join us for an intimate and magical evening with Jackie Morris and The Bookshop Band, commencing with a private view of our new Summer Exhibition and a chance to meet Jackie, and concluding with a 1.5 hour immersive concert of music, words and illustrations

Our new Summer Exhibition – Lost Words, Lost Spells and Beyond & Before, specially curated for Rheged, celebrates Jackie’s 40 years as an artist, illustrator and writer. It’s the first time Jackie’s life work has been exhibited together, with over 250 original artworks from over 40 books.

After exploring the Exhibition, it’s time to take your seat in the cinema for a captivating evening of art, words and music. We are also delighted to welcome The Bookshop Band as part of their UK tour to celebrate the release of their 14th studio album Emerge Return. Beth Porter and Ben Please of The Bookshop Band write and perform songs inspired by books and have collaborated with over 100 authors. They bring the books to life on stage using a multitude of instruments to create a cinematic sound that draws the audience into a highly intimate performance, at once touching and mesmerizing, heart wrenching and funny. No previous knowledge of the books is required as the band guide the audience through the stories behind each song’s inspiration.

The first half is a never before seen, dedication to The Unwinding by Jackie Morris – the author and illustrator and The Bookshop Band. With the help of music, words and beautiful projected illustrations, this a chance to escape from the everyday, into a different world where women and foxes dance, where the fish ride the winds of the world and the bear dreams. Unwind the tensions of waking life and follow a mysterious woman and a great white all-knowing bear as they hunt for wild dreams

The second part of the evening will include music inspired by Lost Words & Lost Spells as well as songs from the Bookshop Band’s brands new album (the 14th) EMERGE RETURN

BBC Radio 2 “Really fabulous new music …just delightful”
