Fern Howe Guest House is situated within the picturesque village of Braithwaite, 2.5 miles from the popular market town of Keswick in the beautiful Lake District National Park. Braithwaite is a popular tourist destination, with its quaint charm, three public houses, village store and local walks. It is gloriously located between Derwent Water and Bassenthwaite Lake. Fern Howe is set in the perfect location for families, cyclists, walkers, photographers and artists alike, with the vast array of local attractions on offer.
Fern Howe provides high quality accommodation, food, drink and toiletries to ensure that guests have a relaxing and comfortable stay. The produce is locally sourced and free range wherever possible, as we are very passionate about supporting local businesses and providing a true, sustainable, Lake District experience. We also pride ourselves on excellent customer service, as we want your stay to the northern Lakes to be as comfortable and enjoyable as possible.
Due to the elevated position of the property within the village, most guest rooms have views out to the fells of Skiddaw, Latrigg and Blencathra, with the remaining rooms having views out to Fern Howe’s hillside garden and six-acre red squirrel protected woodland, with the addition of one courtyard garden room.
We have a range of rooms to suit a range of guests, including super king, double, twin, single and family rooms, all of which have en-suite bathrooms. Within the guest rooms there are flat screen TVs with Free-view; hair dryers; Out of Eden luxury toiletries; mini-fridges; complimentary Wi-Fi; Farrer’s tea/coffee making facilities; and biscuits. There is also on-site parking for all guests.
Fern Howe contains a relaxing guest lounge, providing complimentary cake and tea/coffee making facilities. Within this room there is also a library and selection of games for guest use. In addition, we have an outdoor seating area, where guests can sit and admire the view over the fells, whilst perhaps enjoying a drink and snack. Further complimentary facilities include the use of a drying room; flask refills; literature on local cycle and walking routes; a bicycle storage area and jet wash; and discounts for local attractions.

FAMILY SUITE - FELL VIEW - Relax and unwind in our clean and comfortable Family Fell View Suite, with sweeping views out to Skiddaw, Latrigg, Blencathra and Barrow.This suite contains a main room with double bed and ensuite bathroom, with a door leading to an adjoining room containing a bunk bed - perfect for families with younger children who like to have their own den!
SINGLE ROOM - FELL VIEW - Relax and unwind in our clean and comfortable Single Fell View Room, with sweeping views out to Skiddaw, Latrigg, Blencathra and Barrow. There is both a bath and a shower, allowing you the option of a relaxing soak whilst observing the wonders of the sky through the Velux roof window.
SINGLE ROOM - COURTYARD VIEW - Relax and unwind in our clean and comfortable Single Courtyard View Room, situated on the ground floor with a small planted courtyard area outside the window.
TWIN ROOM - FELL & GARDEN VIEW - Relax and unwind in our clean and comfortable Twin Fell and Garden View Room, with sweeping views out to Skiddaw, Latrigg, Blencathra and Barrow, along with views out to Fern Howe’s hillside garden and woodland.
SUPER KING / TWIN ROOM - FELL & GARDEN VIEW - Relax and unwind in our clean and comfortable Super King/Twin Fell and Garden View Room, with sweeping views out to Skiddaw, Latrigg, Blencathra and Barrow, along with views out to Fern Howe’s hillside garden and woodland. This room has dual functuality - with the choice of either a Super King sized bed set-up or two single beds, for a twin set-up.

From the M6 Motorway:
1. At Junction 40, take the A66 exit to Penrith/Workington/Brough
2. At the Skirsgill Interchange, take the exit on to the A66 towards Keswick, continue 0.9 miles
3. At the roundabout, take the 3rd exit and stay on the A66, continue 15.6 miles
4. At the roundabout, take the 2nd exit on to the Keswick Bypass/A66, continue to follow the A66 for 2 miles
5. Slight left on to B5292 (Braithwaite), continue for 0.3 miles
6 At the Royal Oak Public House, turn right on to un-named road
7. Turn 4th left (at our orange sign - look out for the red squirrel!) - Fern Howe Guest House can be found immediately on the left-hand side
