Cliff Richard At The Keswick Alhambra Cinema
The Keswick Alhambra Cinema, which opened on 15 October for the first time in nine months, with a cosy new second screen, improved seating plan in the original century-old auditorium, reconfigured social spaces, cleaned and repointed facade, new windows, new signage, new heating, ventilation and wiring and full repainting and decorating, is very much hoping that locals and visitors from far and wide will want to come and enjoy the fruits of their labour.
Bond in No Time to Die has naturally dominated the schedule in the opening week, but the cinema is very keen to ensure that all tastes are catered for.
"What better event to bring in a more mature audience than a trip down memory lane and a live celebration of Cliff Richard's enduringly popular music.", says Carol Rennie, co-owner. Sir Cliff Richard’s Great 80 Tour, featuring a selection of his greatest hits, will be broadcast live from the Royal Albert Hall to cinemas across the UK at 7.30pm on Wednesday 27th October, with an encore on the Saturday.
Contacts in the Ambleside Women's Institute suggested that the Alhambra should help make a day of it in Keswick, by putting on a screening of Cliff RIchard in his young days: the iconic 1963 musical film Summer Holiday. Carol was only too happy to oblige, and Jonathan Moore, new co-owner of the cinema who only recently moved to the area, and who has been particularly impressed by the lovely cafes he has encountered in and around Keswick, added the finishing touch: why not encourage our visitors to pay a visit to the amazing Bassenthwaite train station cafe, where you can enjoy your cream and jam in the very train carriage used in the filming of Murder on the Orient Express? Or for those not travelling by car, perhaps a delightful scone in the Chinty's eco-cafe, Chinty's, just a step from the cinema. Both establishments will be delighted to welcome bookings from visitors aiming to make a day of it in Keswick!
