A whole long weekend of Chinese Film (with English subtitles of course!)
Featuring mostly brand new contemporary films, long and short, with MINT's particular emphasis being on work by and from the perspective of women, the MINT Chinese Festival provides an amazing insight into the lives and times and creative output of the Chinese world - from 'home' in China, Taiwan or Hong Kong, by Chinese in diaspora all over the world, and by expatriate Westerners in China.
Chinese students from around the UK will be flocking to Keswick for this rare chance to see Chinese films on the big screen: why don't you dip in and take a taste?!
For those who want guaranteed classics, the 'retrospective classic' strand of the featival feature two Taiwanese international award-winning classics: the romantic drama MILLENIUM MAMBO (2001) directed by Hou Hsiao-hsien opens the Festival at 7.30pm on Thursday 1st Feb, and Edward Yang's YI YI (2000) at 10am on Friday 4th February: a beautiful, delicate, nuanced story of Taiwanese middle-class family life, which features among the most acclaimed films of the 21st century among international critics.
