Traveling from Malawi to California to the White House, Anita Chitaya meets climate sceptics and despairing farmers. Her journey takes her across all the divisions shaping the US, from the rural-urban divide, to schisms of race, class, and gender, to the thinking that allows Americans to believe they live on a different planet from everyone else. It will take all her skill and experience to help Americans recognize, and free themselves from, a logic that is already destroying the Earth.
The Ants and the Grasshopper, which has been a success in America, Canada and in Europe, tells the story of Anita Chitaya, an enterprising farmer from Malawi who is having to grapple every day with the effects of the climate emergency. The film follows her on a journey to the United States of America, to discover the connection between what is happening in her village and intensive farming practices in the West. The aim of the film, which is inspiring and illuminating, is to help start a public conversation about the interconnectivity that links us all across an imperilled world so that we do something about it.
