Brought to you by National Trust for Heritage Open Days, discover the hidden histories of Borrowdale with views right down the valley on a guided walk with upland paths ranger Jordan who is working on repairing the paths on Castle Crag.
The name Borrowdale is said to have come from the old Norse 'Borger Dalr' meaning 'Valley of the fort'. Castle Crag has intriguing layers of history, from iron age hill-fort to First World War memorial, and there's a mysterious cave to explore too. There's a great reward in views for a relatively moderate amount of effort, and it's a chance to explore the area which Wainwright described as 'the loveliest square mile in Lakeland'.
