Take jct 40 from the M6 onto the A66 from Penrith to Keswick.
Like HG Wells' Time Machine the massive boulder at Bowder Stone has stood unchanged while the world has evolved around it. Visit our pop-up exhibition in the former climber's hut to see how dramatically the landscape has changed over the last 200 years. #evolvingmasterpiece Park up in our Bowder Stone car park, Borrowdale Road, CA12 5XA (grid ref:NY254168), the climber's hut is a 15 minute walk from the car park, located beside the boulder itself. Dogs on leads are welcome. The path from the car park is an unsurfaced track with gentle gradients, wheelchair accessible and suitable for all terrain pushchairs. You can climb a steep wooden staircase to the top of the Bowder Stone, and shake hands in a hole beneath it - at your own risk! The 78 bus from Keswick bus station stops at the Bowder Stone. Service runs every 30 minutes April-October. Due to location opening days and times may vary, please call 017687 74649 prior to visit for confirmation of opening.
