Details

All Hands on Deck is a love story between the Royal Navy and their loyal ‘Jenny Wrens’. New WRNS recruits Ginger and Lily, are looking for wartime adventure. Lily wants to serve on dry land but Ginger is desperate to serve at sea – and the sailors can’t believe their luck! All Hands on Deck pays tribute to all those wartime women who pushed the door to opportunity firmly open. Full of dots, dashes, semaphore and song, Ginger and Lily find themselves in uncharted waters on a journey they’ll never forget.

The play is performed by Mikron Theatre, which is officially one of the country’s leading arts organisations for the Arts Council’s 2018-22 funding period. Mikron was founded in 1972, 2019 marks Mikron’s 48th year of touring professional theatre and in this season they will be performing at 130 venues! The Mikron seed was sewn in 1963 when Mike Lucas, a jobbing actor, realised that his mission was to take theatre to unusual venues and new audiences outside of London. It was during a boating holiday that the truly unique aspect of Mikron came to be. Having spent many hours enjoying the atmospheres of the canalside pubs and sampling their local brews, Mike realised that travelling by canal would really give his company a way to reach audiences and venues that may be too “out of the way” for regular touring companies. So in 1972 Mikron took the plunge and toured our first play written for the waterways; “Still Waters”. Today, they still tour by narrowboat in the Summer, performing in all kinds of buildings. In the Spring and Autumn they tour by road.

This is the second time they have visited Threlkeld. They will be performing All Hands on Deck on Thursday 10th October at 7:30pm. Bar and Box Office from 7pm.. Tickets: Adult £13; Family Ticket £35 (2 adults and up to 3 children (under 16s)). Tickets available from the Village Hall Coffee Shop or on-line at www.threlkeldvillagehall.org/whats-on.
