In 1989 Aung San Suu Kyi became a symbol of hope for democracy and human rights in Burma (Myanmar) when she was placed under house arrest by the military regime. In 2016 she was given the post of State Counsellor and it was assumed that she would be in a position to transform the repressive regime in her country. Three years on, she’s been condemned as the head of a brutal regime. This play explores the dramatic change in the international verdict on Aung San Suu Kyi, and seeks an explanation for her silence.
