Come to see Keswick Museum’s exhibition: -
Derwentwater is a major feature within the landscape of this area, it is a home, a place of work, a place of industry, as well as a favourite holiday destination. This exhibition aims to look at these different viewpoints of the lake, through a series of areas:
The exhibition provides a snapshot of the lake, telling the story of historical figures such as St Herbert, the Earls of Derwentwater and Beatrix Potter through to current users of the lake such as photographer Stuart Holmes and spaniels Max, Paddy and Harry and the wild swimmers of the lake.
Highlights of items to be seen at the exhibition include film props used during the making of Swallows and Amazons, stunning photography by Stuart Holmes and the wonderful journals recording people’s time on Derwentwater. Throughout the exhibition there are lots of things for people to do, from sharing their memories of the lake on our board to creating your own performance at our mini Blue Box Theatre.
As part of the project, the Museum has been using new technology, both through a touchscreen within the exhibition to play interviews with lake users and the development of a walking app, helping to connect the Museum collection with the landscape.
