This year sees the fifteenth Woolfest, the original British festival of wool, and it will be taking over Mitchell’s Lakeland Livestock Centre at Cockermouth, just a 15 minute drive from Keswick, on Friday 28 and Saturday 29 June 2019.
Known for its friendly atmosphere, Woolfest attracts thousands of visitors with its mix of livestock, fleece (the big attraction for spinners) and over 150 stallholders selling yarn, tools and the highest quality finished craft designs.
There are happenings in the Main Ring throughout, including a shearing demonstration, rare breed parades and, for 2019, a charity auction of crafted sheep in aid of Eden Valley Hospice. This year also sees an exhibition in the Small Ring of photography and words on the theme of Hefted To Hill.
There will be numerous demonstrations of textile skills going on around the halls and plenty of local music, food and drink to enjoy too.
All in all, Woolfest 2019 is a great day out. The doors open on both days at 10am and the entry cost is £10 (£15 for a two-day ticket) including parking and a full programme. Accompanied children have free entry. Further details are at www.woolfest.co.uk – and all visitors, from very near or far, are welcome.
