The Millbeck Wind Quintet, as the name suggests, originates from Millbeck near Keswick. The Quintet was founded nearly 30 years ago with accomplished players from Cumbria and the Borders. The quintet was originally based and held all rehearsals in Millbeck, where Elaine Moor lived; hence the name.
The five original members of the quintet have remained unchanged therefore developing a very special and unique bond, and, a real enjoyment of playing together. They frequently meet just for fun, but they also love giving concerts and having the opportunity to share their enthusiasm. The members of the quintet have a huge collection of wind chamber music which now has amassed to well over 1000 pieces. This enables the group to choose a programme to suit all tastes and styles which has been immensely popular with all audiences. The members of the group also really enjoy talking about their instruments and the music they are playing which adds another dimension to their performances, resulting in a relaxed and entertaining evening.
Their repertoire uses flute (Jonathan Wicker), oboe (Elaine Moor), clarinet (Stephen Bagot), horn (Pamela Harris) and bassoon (Peter Hutchison). These instruments make up the traditional wind quintet but the members of the Millbeck Wind Quintet also play many other instruments between them including oboe d’amore, cor anglais, all sizes of clarinet from little Eb to contra bass clarinet and contra bassoon. Some of these instruments are often used in concerts to add even greater interest and variety.
They are appearing at Threlkeld Village Hall on Friday, 12th July at 7:30pm. Bar and Box Office from 7pm. Tickets £8 (£4 under 18’s) available from Threlkeld PO, Village Hall Coffee Shop, on-line at: http://www.threlkeldvillagehall.org/whats-on. Box Office Enquiries 07733 790308.
