Spring is in the air. Words by the Water can’t wait to land in Keswick for the annual ten day celebration
of words and ideas on the banks of beautiful Derwentwater at Theatre by the Lake.
Here is a small tantalising taste of just some of the events on offer in the Main House… We’re delighted that festival president Melvyn Bragg will be unveiling his latest novel Love Without End. Comedian Robin Ince will take a humorous look at what makes us human, Irving Finkel leaves
the rarified atmosphere of the British Museum and transports us back 3,000 years to explore the
world’s oldest script and Alan Johnson takes a trip down memory lane through the music of his youth.
Political historian Anthony Seldon takes us behind the legendary black door and explores 300 years of 10 Downing Street, and journalist and founder of the Local Schools Network, Melissa Benn, makes the case for a national education service. As ever, the intimate Studio venue delivers a stimulating, varied and diverse programme.
Themed days include Exploration and Travel, Science of Mind and Body, Wild Words, Historical
Perspectives and the ever-popular Bookcase day. This heady mix and much more will be taking place at Words by the Water Festival of Words and Ideas, we hope to see you there.
