The ascent of the stunning Carducci Quartet into the league of the world’s major quartets has been phenomenal. In this concert, Beethoven – his landmark Op.18 no. 1 – and Brahms – his great Clarinet Quintet – frame Gumboots, a thought-provoking and life enhancing work by David Bruce, a composer with a growing international reputation. The Carducci are in demand world-wide, they are outstanding and a joy to hear.
