Kiln How was built in 1725. Formerly a farmhouse and potash kiln, it now provides four self contained apartments of varying sizes and an adjacent cottage ideal or two people. The house is situated in the village of Rosthwaite, near the head of Borrowdale, the dale described by many writers as the most beautiful in England.


The house itself has a pretty walled garden, a pleasant retreat for tired walkers and a lovely spot to enjoy the evening sun as it sets over the ridge of High Spy. Rising all around are the local fells- Castle Crag, Brund Fell, Great Fell, Bessyboot, and flowing beneath is the River Derwent, which provides a spectacularly beautiful and fascinating landscape to be explored and enjoyed.

Apartment 1, Green Gable is situated on ground floor and sleeps 2

Apartment 2, Catbells is situated on the first floor and sleeps 2

Apartment 3, Newlands is situated on the first floor and sleeps 4. There are
2 bedrooms, one double bed and one with twin beds.

Apartment 4, High Spy is situated on the second floor and sleeps 6. There are 4 bedrooms, two with double beds , two with single beds.

Kiln How Cottage is situated across the courtyard at the rear of Kiln How and sleeps 2.

All apartments and the cottage are fully furnished and equipped to a very comfortable standard.

Location

From the M6 at Junction 40 take the A66 heading west towards Keswick. Exit the A66 at the large roundabout (junction with the A591) and follow signs for "Borrowdale" onto the B5289. The valley road leads south along the eastern shores of Derwentwater and twists through "The Jaws" into the upper valley. Rosthwaite is six miles (10km) from Keswick. Kiln How driveway is directly opposite The Royal Oak hotel.
