Located in a spectacular tranquil setting midway between Mungrisdale and Hesket Newmarket nestling in the lea of Carrock Fell this warm and cosy seventeenth century shepherds' house has been lovingly restored retaining its original features.
You can walk onto the common from your door and there is abundant wildlife with our own red squirrel colony and many species of birds. We are within easy reach of the Osprey nest at Bassenthwaite Lake.
Ideal for a relaxing holiday at any time of year Bannest Hill is also within easy driving distance of all the popular tourist centres of the Lakes, Eden Valley, Hadrian's Wall and the Svottish Borders.
If you are seeking an activity holiday there are numerous walks you can take on the fells, right from your door. Hang gliding is popular from Carrock Fell and the many quiet roads nearby are ideal for cycling. We are close to the Coast to Coast route and the Cumbria Way. For golfers Keswick and Silloth are excellent courses nearby.
Our nearest village, Hesket Newmarket, has a pub with its own brewery attached serving award-winning real ales. It has a village shop with post office and tea room. There are several restaurants nearby including the Mill Inn Mungrisdale, the Sportsman Inn Troutbeck and the Crown in Hesket. The next farm to us offers local meats of a high standard.
Bannest Hill Cottage is fully equipped for a comfortable stay and can accomodate up to three people.
The tastefully-furnished accomodation comprises, on the ground floor, a comfortable beamed living area with many period features, a well-equipped newly installed kitchen with slate-tiled floor and a shower room with a ladge walk-in shower.
Upstairs is a large oak-beamed family bedroom with both a double and a single bed. This room can be reconfigured into two bedrooms with their own separate access if required.
Adjustable night storage heaters and an electric stove ensure a warm snug stay throughout the year. Duvets, blankets, clean fresh bed-linen and tea towels are provided with all services included in the price. Towels can be hired if required.
A newly-built annexe provides secure undercover cycle storage and laundry facilities, including a washer dryer and a classic ceiling-hung clothes airer. Outside the annex is a tap for washing boots and cycles.
If you require provisions on arrival or during your stay, just let us know in advance. The annex has a freezer for storing ready meals and any other items you may need.
Modern communications include a flat screen satellite TV/DVD and free WiFi for guests.
There is private parking by the cottage and guests can sit out in the grounds and picnic in the lea of the fell.
A cot and high chair can be supplied if required.
Short breaks are accepted subject to availability.
We also have two cottages in Keswick. Fountain Cottage has three bedrooms and sleeps up to 6 people. Poachers Cottage has two bedrooms and sleeps up to four people, see www.bannesthill.co.uk.
