Location

The location of the village is ideal for walks for all abilities. The Newlands Valley is a few minutes walk from the village while the Allerdale Ramble passes through it. More serious walks are easily accessible from the house, including Grisedale and Causey Pikes. In nearby Braithwaite, Whinlatter Forest Park provides a range of walking and cycling paths and an interesting visitors centre. The C2C cycle route passes through the village with bicycle hire shops in Keswick.

Portinscale is approximately one mile from Keswick town centre along a flat well-defined path.
