Peter Rabbit Mischief and Mayhem at the Rheged Centre

RARE Beatrix Potter artworks and manuscripts will go on show in Cumbria as part of a new exhibition this month. Cumbria’s most famous literary character jumps right off the page in this interactive exhibition about Beatrix Potter’s first, and most famous, creation.

This exhibition tells the story of the creation of Peter Rabbit and includes original work which is rarely exhibited. It also reveals a fresh insight into the innovative way Beatrix Potter developed Peter Rabbit toys and games.

Generations of children have grown up with Peter Rabbit, from reading the original tales to watching the current TV and film animations. This exhibition looks at Peter across the ages, and includes original artworks, first editions and early Peter Rabbit merchandise.

Children can play like Peter in an interactive learning area, and activities include a giant board game, playing shop, and performing scenes from the tales. Children can help Mrs. Tiggy-Winkle hang out the washing, and aid Mr McGregor in planting carrots in his garden. Peter Rabbit: Mischief and Mayhem runs at Rheged from February 28 to June 3, and is open between 10am and 5pm each day. Entrance is payable on the day.
