More handbags say Theatre by the Lake’s audiences

Theatre by the Lake’s production of Handbagged has been wowing audiences and critics since opening in June and the theatre is delighted to announce five more performances of the show due to popular demand – four new matinees on Thu 21 September, Thu 12 October, Tue 24 October and Sat 4 November, all at 2pm, and one new evening performance on Sat 4 November at 7.30pm.

The play imagines the weekly conversations between Margaret Thatcher and the Queen, and speculates what really happened behind closed palace doors when two of the most powerful women in the world clashed.

Written by Moira Buffini, Handbagged was first seen at the Tricycle Theatre in London, where it received rave reviews and packed out audiences. It subsequently transferred to the West End, to similar acclaim. Funny, insightful and brilliantly sharp, the play was nominated for an Olivier Award for Best New Comedy in 2015.

Audience comments from TBTL’s production have included ‘Witty, moving and totally engaging, would not hesitate to see it again’, ‘one of the best productions we've seen at TBTL’ and ‘absolutely brilliant’, alongside rave reviews from the local press.

Head of Communications Rachel Swift said: ‘We have been thrilled with the reception that our production of Handbagged has had and hope that the extra performances mean that even more people can enjoy the show before the end of the season. We’re very much looking forward to seeing the entries to the caption competition!’

Handbagged runs at Theatre by the Lake until Saturday 4 November. To book tickets or to find out more visit www.theatrebythelake.com or call the box office on 017687 74411. Tickets from £10. See the show trailer here: youtu.be/qEWl06njw1A
