Wordsworth House

William Wordsworth was one of the fathers of the English Romantic movement and, with its elegant rooms and charming walled gardens, his childhood home is the perfect setting for a fairytale Lake District wedding.
Wordsworth House and Garden is a late 17th-century townhouse, which stands on Cockermouth’s tree-lined main street.

It’s available to hire for civil and naming ceremonies, renewal of vows and other special occasions, and we have a range of packages to choose from.

Atmospheric rooms

Ceremonies seating up to 40 guests can take place in the dining room where the Wordsworths used to dine, the upstairs drawing room or in front of the fire in the atmospheric Georgian kitchen.

You and your guests can enjoy Champagne and canapés indoors or out, and for smaller parties, we can offer a light lunch or cream tea.

Take your photographs in the house, on the terrace or in the glorious walled gardens that William remembered so fondly in later life.
