Over this busy one day course you will together build a cob pizza oven and so take home the knowledge to recreate your very own outdoor pizza oven (and huge source of warmth) in your own garden. Starting with an existing plinth you will prepare, level and install the fire brick base and learn all about the importance of materials to use, insulation levels, clay and material procurement, and dimensions etc. Soon you will start mixing the cob with bare feet whilst others start to build and model the sand forma for the actual oven shape - tasks will be shared to ensure experience of every stage is acquired. Once the cob is ready the group will prepare the cob loaves and begin to cover the forma so creating the oven shape. Our 2014 Pizza oven courses ran over 2 days and feedback suggested it would be better compacted into one single day - so we have listened and are the course has been compacted into one busy day. There will be a previously made pizza oven still needing to be opened up to complete the lesson on the first course of 2015 (Easter Monday) and then students can empty the sand out - create the door and then light , use and discuss the other stages required to complete your own oven and home. How to protect your oven from the elements and sourcing of all materials. Of course you will be making both pizzas and bread in the oven at the end of the day, time allowing.
