English Touring Opera presents Handel's Giulio Cesare (Julius Caesar). Giulio Cesare is Handel’s most celebrated opera, and a real clash of titans on stage. A thrilling story of passion and revenge, it features music so beautiful and characters so strong that it’s presented across two intriguing, stand-alone performances. Tue 14: The Death of Pompey Having defeated his rival Pompey, can Caesar now survive the machinations of King of Egypt Ptolemy and his sister Cleopatra? Wed 15: Cleopatra’s Needle The Battle for the Kingdom of the Nile reaches a crisis, as Pompey’s family is enslaved, Caesar is presumed dead, and Cleopatra is made captive by her brother. Don’t miss this exhilaratingly epic drama, featuring baroque orchestra The Old Street Band and a first-rate cast including Christopher Ainslie in the title role. Both parts sung in Italian with English surtitles
