The village of Embleton is situated just off the A66 between the market towns of Keswick and Cockermouth. It is ideally placed for touring the North and Western Lakes. The West Coast is also within easy reach. Embleton has a pub, the Wheatsheaf Inn, for traditonal pub fayre and also a restaurant at Derwent Lodge.
With 5 lakes close by - Bassenthwaite, Derwentwater, Loweswater, Buttermere and Crummock Water - there are opportunities for sailing, canoeing, fishing and lakeside walks. For walkers Skiddaw, Sale Fell, Dodd, Lords Seat, Grisedale and Barf are only a short drive away.

Whinlatter Forest, Englands's only mountain forest is only a short drive away. There is an excellent choice of trails for both walking and mountain biking. Depending on the time of year live pictures can be seen at the Whinlatter Visitor Centre of the world famous Bassenthwaite ospreys or the red squirrels when the Ospreys have migrated to more sunnier climes.
