Bamford B&B wont make a splash when it reopens with Brollies
On July 30th 2010, three years after they first opened their Keswick Guest House, Peter and Lynda van Dyke are relaunching Bamford B&B with a sense of humour. Like most places hit by the November floods, the couple have spent a huge amount of time and money restoring their business and they are now prepared for their relaunch - (whatever the weather!) with a poignant gift for the first thirty guests - Bamford Brollies!!
Eight months after the floods, Peter and Lynda are one of the last to reopen their guest house. Abandoning their homes and living in temporary accommodation, the couple were amazed at how much damage a few inches of water could do but have maintained a positive attitude, adding better floor insulation and reclaiming the floor boards to create a green-roofed arbour for the garden.
Peter said “it is a sense of humour that has kept us going throughout these difficult times. It has been a long and frustrating wait at times, but we made the best of it and reused what we could. It’s fantastic that we can now open our doors and we want our guests to have a dry stay in the Lakes. That’s what prompted us to offer our own umbrellas; after all, you can’t have a Lake District without rain! Ironically we have had one of the driest starts to the year on record and our guests may not even need their Bamford Brollies. We don’t mind because there will come a time when they are needed and we hope that our guests will remember what a great time they had when they stayed in Keswick. And if it does rain during their holiday, the Bamford Brollies will keep guests dry when they are out and about! ”
With the continued focus on the staycation, Peter and Lynda are hoping to make the most of visitors taking advantage of good summer weather for a ‘staycation in Keswick.
