Julia Bradbury Walking Group gains support of Julia!

Wednesday 28th Jul 2010 15:09:27

Inspired by Julia Bradbury’s Wainwright Walks series, a group from Lancashire formed about 12 months ago to walk the fells and are currently enjoying discovering the Lakeland mountains and scenery .
Naming themselves ‘The Julia Bradbury’s’ the group aim to spur themselves on to greater heights with the same amount of energy and enthusiasm shown by Julia on her now famous walks on the fells surrounding Keswick. Some of these walks, including Catbells and Castle Crag can be downloaded from www.keswick.org, the website operated by Keswick Tourism Association.
Several big fells have now been climbed by the group and the walks have become a regular social event with visits to the Keswick area every three weeks or so. The ‘Julia Bradbury’s’ were thrilled recently when the celebrity herself agreed to be Honorary President. ‘No-one can quite believe that Julia Bradbury has taken time out of her busy schedule to put a little more fun into The Julia Bradbury’s. The group loves walking in the lakes and really enjoy the infectious enthusiasm and camaraderie that is generated during the walks – I’ve made some great friends and thoroughly enjoy the times out in the mountains.’
Complete with t-shirts and Julia Bradbury lookalike wigs, the group met on Sunday 25th July at the Glaramara Outdoor Centre in Borrowdale where they enjoyed refreshments kindly provided by the centre before setting off on a walk on to Glaramara fell. Cathy Colam from Keswick Rambles led the walk and provided local interest and knowledge of the area.
Linda Furniss, Tourism Officer from Keswick Tourism Association met the group and was struck by their enthusiasm for the area and for their love of the outdoors. ‘They represent all the reasons why we have so many visitors here – it’s stunningly beautiful, walking is healthy, relaxing and it’s great to get away from it all out in the big outdoors’.
The Glaramara Outdoor Centre - www.glaramara.co.uk/ - located at the head of the beautiful Borrowdale valley, offers a multi-purpose venue for holidays, outdoor activities, team development, skills courses and function hire. It is an ideal base for walking and mountain biking holidays.
Keswick Rambles - www.keswickrambles.org.uk/ - meets at the Moot Hall most days for a wide variety of walks and provides leaders who have enthusiasm for and knowledge of the area.
